The difference between glass wool felt and rock wool board

1. Different production raw materials and processes

Glass wool insulation material is made of quartz sand, feldspar, sodium silicate, boric acid, etc. as the main raw materials. After high-temperature melting, the fiber-cotton shape of less than 2um is obtained, and then a thermosetting resin adhesive is added and pressed and shaped at high temperature to produce boards, felts, and pipe products of various shapes and specifications. Aluminum foil or PVC film can also be pasted on its surface.

Rock wool is an inorganic fiber made from natural rocks such as basalt, gabbro, dolomite, iron ore, bauxite, etc., which are melted and fiberized at high temperatures. After processing, the fiber can be made into various products such as boards, tubes, felts, and belts. It should be used for thermal insulation, fire protection, sound absorption, earthquake resistance, etc. in construction and industrial equipment, pipes, and kilns. 2. Product performance is different

Glass wool has a lower bulk density, less slag ball content, lower thermal conductivity, longer service life, and greater fiber toughness than rock wool. However, the maximum operating temperature of rock wool is about 600 degrees Celsius, while glass wool is only about 260 degrees Celsius.

3. Products have different uses

Glass wool is generally used for insulation parts with a temperature below 200 degrees Celsius, and is mostly used for the insulation of general buildings or low-temperature pipelines. Rock wool is generally used for insulation parts with a temperature of 450 degrees Celsius, and is mostly used for the insulation of high-temperature thermal pipes or electrical equipment.
